A picker pushes a multi-order cart through the pick face, selects an item, identifies the customer order, and places it into the matching cart position. The method is simple to start with, but it ties product retrieval and order consolidation together at every pick.

A more scalable workflow has two controlled stages. Stage 1: retrieve efficiently in a larger batch based on SKU location, order priority, or the current release plan. Stage 2: consolidate with guidance by scanning each item and directing it to the correct order position.

• Release a suitable batch of multi-item orders.

• Follow the light or screen prompt to place it in the assigned order position.
